Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

VET NATIONAL CODE: HLTAID009
Duration:  20 hours

Mode of Study

This course will be delivered over 20 hours. Students will be studying in a designated classroom: 
 

  • Training support is provided through qualified trainers and assessors after the training session or upon request. 

  • Trainers provide learning activities; learners are responsible for completing all mandated tasks and activities, and trainers review learning and delivery through guided learning. 

  • Students will also complete learning via learner resources. 

  • The classroom includes a simulated workplace environment with equipment typically used to administer first aid.

Amount of Training

The training and assessment schedule included in this Training and Assessment Strategy outlines when training is delivered and the assessments that must be completed.
 

The total amount of training provided includes:

  • Structured self-study (review of the Student Pack) – estimated 12 hours. This material should be reviewed before the face-to-face class.

  • Structured face-to-face training – 2 hours

  • Face-to-face assessment – 6 hours

Total structured delivery and assessment: 20 hours

Progress and monitoring occur throughout the program, with sufficient time allocated for students to complete required tasks and gain a full understanding of expectations.

Note: Students refreshing skills may require less than 12 hours to review the Student Pack.

 

Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the  Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.  
This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and  workplace settings 

Entry Requirements

 Learners at Australis Vocational College must meet the following entry requirements to obtain admission in this training product: 

  • Age: 18 years or older at the time of enrolment  

  •  LLN skills demonstration according to “Language, literacy and Numeracy requirements” levels identified below 

  • Students must have access to and be able to use a computer and the Internet (digital literacy)
     

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

As a prerequisite of enrolling in this course, each student will be required to undertake a Language Literacy and  Numeracy (LLN) test.  

  • Learning ACSF Level 2

  •  Reading ACSF Level 2  

  • Writing ACSF Level 2  

  • Oral communication ACSF Level 2  

  • Numeracy ACSF Level 2

All face to face classes are held at 87 Fennell Street North Parramatta NSW 2151

Education Pathways

Students who successfully complete this course may pathway into HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid or other  relevant courses in first aid, and life support. After completing the course students may use the skills in the current role  or seek work where they can apply these skills.  

Course Credit

Although unlikely due to the nature of the course and the requirement for the skills to be refreshed regularly, learners may  apply for recognition of prior learning or a credit transfer. RTO recognises the AQF Qualifications and Statement of  Attainments issued by any other Registered Training Organisation. Award of RPL and/or Credit Transfer may result in  the reduction of the course duration. For further information please refer RPL and Credit Transfer Policy and Procedure.
